Berlin Simplifies eID Activation and PIN Reset Process
For individuals relocating to or within Germany, this update simplifies the process of activating and managing their online ID function in Berlin. It removes the need for appointments and allows greater flexibility regarding the location of service, making administrative tasks more accessible.
Berlin has updated its procedures for the subsequent activation of the online ID function (eID), excluding electronic residence permits (eAT). This service is now possible at any Berlin citizen office without a prior appointment.
The updated rules also specify that eID activation is available irrespective of an individual’s main residence. Additionally, PIN changes for the eID can be performed on-site using dedicated terminals, requiring users to choose a six-digit PIN. Applications for PIN resets must be submitted in person.
