Online residence registration in Berlin is free and saves a trip to the office. To use the online ID function for this, individuals need an activated Personalausweis, a 6-digit PIN, and either a contactless USB card reader or an NFC-enabled smartphone with the AusweisApp.
Berlin has introduced a new option for residence registration, allowing individuals to complete the process online. This service is free of charge and aims to eliminate the need for an in-person visit to a local administrative office.
To utilize the online ID function for registration, individuals must possess an activated Personalausweis (German identity card) and a corresponding 6-digit PIN. Additionally, users will need either a contactless USB card reader or an NFC-enabled smartphone equipped with the official AusweisApp.
