For individuals relocating to Germany, these updated rules provide specific criteria for bringing children under 18, depending on the child's integration potential and the parent's visa or residency status. This clarifies the process for family reunification.
Germany has updated its rules regarding child family reunification. Children under 18 years of age can now join their parents in Germany, provided they speak German or demonstrate an ability to integrate into society.
Exceptions to these general conditions apply to parents who are recognized asylum seekers, refugees, highly qualified professionals, or those holding specific permits such as the Blue Card. For these groups, the language or integration requirements for children may be waived.
Furthermore, specific conditions are in place for individuals who obtained residence permits before January 1, 2005, under the ‘old’ Aliens Act. A notable change is that accompanying family members are now immediately allowed to work upon arrival.
